+ INSTRUCTIONS
Following surgery, it's important to follow these specific precautions to ensure proper healing when there is a communication between the sinus and mouth.
Medication and Avoiding Pressure
Take prescriptions as directed and use over-the-counter nasal decongestants. Avoid spitting, blowing your nose, or sneezing to minimize sinus pressure.
Diet and Oral Care
Stick to soft foods and chew on the opposite side. Avoid straws and be gentle when rinsing with salt water.
Monitor and Communicate
Slight nasal bleeding is normal, but report any increased drainage or pain to our office. Keep all follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing.
Because of the close relationship between upper back teeth and the sinus, a communication between the sinus and mouth sometimes results from surgery. If this complication has occurred, it often heals slowly and with difficulty, but certain precautions will assist healing and we ask that you faithfully follow these instructions for the next few weeks.
Slight bleeding from the nose is not uncommon for several days after surgery.
Please keep our office advised of any changes in your condition, especially is drainage or pain increases. It is important that you keep all future appointments until this complication has resolved.
